Ok, so finally you have your perfect website online. It’s clean, it’s professional, it’s easy to navigate…BUT you can’t find it ANYWHERE in search engines. I know what you are thinking…what is the point of having this BRILLIANT website online if no-one can see it? How will It get me patients? Well, don’t panic, we are here to help.

There are a number of reasons why a website doesn’t rank highly in search engines and today I will be talking to you about a couple reasons why you can’t find your website online. Are you ready? Let’s go…

One of the main reasons your website might not be ranking highly is simple; your site is new! It can take weeks for Google to even “realise” your site is online and start indexing its pages, meaning it will begin to be “present” in search engines.

Your website will start showing its potential in search engines rankings at around 3 months, so be patient – it takes time.

Duplicate Content

Another reason your website might not be showing in search engines could be down to your content. Is the content you have on your website all original or is it duplicated? Duplicated content is content that already exists somewhere else online. Any content used on your website must be unique. To provide the best search experience, search engines such as Google won’t show multiple instances of sites with duplicate content.

More Content

I would recommend making sure you have plenty of content! The more content you have, the more likely search engines will rate the website as a resourceful and useful source, therefore will rank it higher. In our experience, websites which have twice the amount of content and double the amount of pages rank twice as much in Google. This means there is double the chance of someone finding the website and contacting you (the therapist) for an appointment.

I would advise not only ensuring ALL the content you put on your website is unique to avoid a low position in search engines but making sure you have lots of content.

Ok, so its been 3 months and you have wrote all your own content and your website is FULL of useful information, so why isn’t your website ranking highly? It could be down to your keywords. You could have a VERY competitive keyword market. Targeting areas such as “London” or “Manchester” is TOO general and your site can get lost within search engines. Those are big cities that have very competitive markets. Instead target areas only within a 10 – 15 mile radius of your clinic. If you target a less competitive market, it will more than likely gain the attention of your consumer.

By including the services you offer and the locations you practice in within the content of your website there will also be a higher chance search engines will rank you higher when people are searching for a particular area / service. For example if your practice is located in Newington and you don’t incorporate this keyword into your website, it won’t rank when someone is searching for “Newington, therapist”.

Now, we have come down to one of the main reasons your website might not be performing as well as you had hoped…

You have to ask yourself one question; is your website responsive?

Google has recently tightened its algorithm, (how it decides where a site ranks) so now it also takes into account whether a site is responsive. A responsive site is one that displays based on the screen size of the device. It’s a bit more work but it does means that sites have to be designed numerous times to account for different screen sizes but it is certainly worth it in terms of SEO and usability. A responsive site makes navigation of a website on a mobile device much more user friendly and a responsive site will, therefore, convert more website visitors on mobile and tablet devices into customers.
