In today’s blog I will be explaining why social media marketing is so important and even essential for your business. No matter if you have a small start up business or you are running a big organisation – social media is the key to success.
Why is it important?
Sit down, lean back and try to think of a day in the past month you spent a whole day without touching your phone? Or haven’t used any type or form of internet on your phone or laptop? We don’t think you can think of one, not in today’s day and age. Did you know that there is over 3 billion (almost half of the world’s population!) internet users in the world and over 2 billion of them are actively engaged on social media? And yes, you are one of them if you are reading this blog.
Social media has become an essential platform for businesses to engage and monitor their target audiences for free (or mostly for free) on a daily basis. I will talk you through some of the benefits now so keep reading!
Brand awareness and exposure
I think this is the biggest benefit of all. What else could you wish? You have a brand which you want people to know about. You post it on social media targeting relevant groups and individuals. They click on your post, end up on your website and start talking about you. Isn’t it so easy and yet so effective? Try it, and you will see what I’m talking about.
Obviously, as with any type of marketing, analysing your target audience and your campaign is very important. There is no point spending hours of creating a marketing campaign and don’t analyse it after. Social media generates valuable amount of data about users – who they are, what they like, where they gather, how they feel about your brand? Over 500 million tweets are posted every day and around 100 million photos / videos are uploaded to Instagram. Using social media analytics tools and daily engaging with your customers, you can gather relevant information and improve your marketing campaigns and make smarter business decisions.
We all like sharing our experiences online don’t we? Every time we go out we post a picture of friends or cocktails on social media, tagging ourselves in places. We are doing it without even realising that by tagging restaurants, cinemas and bars on instagram we are exposing those places and are creating brand awareness. That is a great feedback for any business getting tagged in a picture where you and your friends are having fun! Social media also allow you to comment, like and review any businesses without emailing or calling the company to express their opinion and leave their feedback on brand’s page. All can be done online with one simple click, which let other consumers to see it and get their first impressions online.
There are many more benefits of social media which I could list such as sales, conversion rates, website traffic, competition analysis and more. However, it would take hours to talk about as it’s such a powerful and essential tool for any business in 2017. You don’t need to talk about it – you just need to do it so start thinking of implementing social media strategies in your business model if you didn’t do that yet!
